Compliance & AI Safety

Responsible AI, regulatory alignment, and anti-slop commitment

Our AI Commitment

We use AI as a tool to amplify human investigation, not replace human judgment.
Every AI-assisted output is human-directed and human-accountable; per-claim human verification is recorded as our review progresses, not asserted complete.

Regulatory Framework

The Institute for Cognitive Sovereignty operates under the governance of Holistic Quality LLC. We align our practices with applicable regulations and proactively adopt emerging AI governance standards. The Institute is an advocacy and public-education organization — a publisher of investigations that cites the Research of Record — and an AI deployer: we use commercial AI models as tools and train or fine-tune no models of our own for the published corpus.

Framework posture last reviewed 2026-06-05. "Aligned" denotes voluntary, self-assessed alignment, not certification.

Framework Scope & our posture Status (as of 2026-06-05)
GDPR Principles Data protection, privacy by design Active
CCPA Alignment California consumer privacy Active
EU AI Act (Reg. 2024/1689) As a deployer with transparency duties — not a general-purpose-AI (GPAI) provider. GPAI provider obligations (Art. 53) bind those who train and place models on the market and applied from August 2025; the high-risk regime and most remaining provisions apply from August 2026. We train no models, so the provider duties do not attach to us. Monitoring & preparing

Upstream model providers publish their own frontier-safety frameworks; our AI-assisted work inherits those provider-side safeguards in addition to our own human-anchor review.

AI Safety Principles

Our investigations extensively use AI systems (the Hexad methodology). We hold ourselves to strict safety standards:

🔒 Human Anchor Principle

All AI-assisted work operates under human direction. The human anchor maintains:

  • Ethical oversight: Final decisions on what gets published
  • Quality control: Review of all AI-generated content
  • Accountability: Responsibility for all outputs
  • Direction: Strategic goals and investigation priorities

⚠️ Anti-Slop Commitment

"AI Slop" refers to low-quality, mass-produced AI-generated content that pollutes information ecosystems: SEO spam, fake articles, engagement bait, synthetic misinformation.

We commit to never producing AI slop. Specifically:

Why this matters: AI slop degrades the information environment for everyone. It makes it harder to find real research, real insights, real human knowledge. As an organization investigating digital harms, we have a special obligation not to contribute to them.

Hexad Methodology Safeguards

The Hexad methodology (human + 5 AI systems) includes built-in safeguards:

🎯 Cross-Checking

Multiple AI systems check each other's work. Disagreements are flagged for human review. Consensus doesn't guarantee truth, but it catches obvious errors.

🔍 Source Checking

Citations are checked against original sources. "Hallucinated" references are caught and removed. We link to primary sources whenever possible.

⚖️ Ethical Review

Content is reviewed for potential harms before publication. We ask: Could this be misused? Does it respect privacy? Does it serve cognitive sovereignty?

📝 Audit Trail

We maintain records of how each investigation was produced. If questioned, we can explain our methodology and show our work.

Future Regulatory Readiness

AI regulation is evolving rapidly. We're preparing for:

Our philosophy: Don't wait for regulations. Do the right thing now. When rules arrive, we'll already be compliant.
